Lervig/Nøgne Ø «We love wheat» (7,9%) 4/6

imageLight brown and mirky, pours 1/3 inch head. Smells of caramel, wine and toffee. Great freshness/degree of carbonization. Beautiful sweet taste, fullbodied. Lots of caramel, toffee and with spicy hints underneath. Smooth outro with caramel taste still highly present, but not exaggerated. Well adjusted, with bitter end.

Mikkeller «Spontan Cherry Frederiksdal» (8,2%) 5/6

imageAged in Malaga wine barrels, the expectations rises to the ceiling here… The aroma is oak and red wine, distinct smell of ripe berries. The colour is also extremely inviting- not burgundy but blood red, really dark. The closest to red wine out of any beer I’ve tried. Produces a light degree of foam inside the glass, but only at the edges. Taste: It gives me acidic ripe cherries, gooseberry and some oak. Just a mere hint of sweetness before turning dangerously acidic, and on the second sip, a hint of leather and overall very sharp. With the acidity lingering for a good while in the aftertaste.

Ewil Twin «Yang» (10%) 4/6

imageDeep Deep yellow in color but not much mention-worthy smell. Much carbon dioxide content, which produces surprisingly little head, but bubbles inside beer and sticking to the glass, even after pouring. Aroma of citrus and green apples. As far as taste go, we find at first, lovely sweetness from the malts, very fruity and then, it all turns damn bitter. With such a bitter end, it is a great escalation to the «top» too. Really bitter ending!

Malheur «6» (6%) 2/6

imageStraw-yellow colour, fairly light and slightly transparent. Pours a light / small hat. Smells a bit like cross between citrus, sweet’n sour and fruity. Violent carbonization, in line with many other Belgians. At first slightly acidic-fruity taste, then very fruity malt middle… The flavor gives it a hint of acidity, fruitiness then before malts comes into play. However- The taste passes very quickly … But this is no 6, so perhaps the other versions are more flavorful. This lasts a little too short for my taste and is overall a bit too weak.

Yukon Brewing «Midnight Sun» (6,2%) 3/6

imageDeep dark in colour, although gives the impression of lightbodied stout- not really thick texturewise as many of the good ones of this sort. Aroma of coffee and some sweet hints, pours small head. Quite fresh, highly definined espresso-taste, and as expected, light texture. The coffeetaste is at front and gives a very bitter taste to this one that prevails- as the main coffee-traces is shortlived, although quite extreme in terms of presence.

Surly «Darkness» (9,9%) 6/6

DarknessThick, black liquid which pours a yellow-brownish, creamy delicate head. The aroma gives clear assocciations to plum and ripe fruit. By taste, it is at first extremely fruity and enhances sweetness for a split second, before a burning bitter carpet evolves up underneath which lies for a long time, and changes back & forth, several times, through the darkest of oceans, with honey, crisp biscuits, mature fruit, oak and dark berries amongst other things. It balances on the borderline of sweetness, slightly acidic, stingy bitterness and mature, rustique complexity. Absolutely crazy, and neverending, intriguing exitement in this.

Surly «Overrated!» (7,3%) 4/6

imageFruity and exiting aroma. Surprisingly and shockingly hopped, this yellow IPA kicks off in a spring- forest like beverage style, clearly hop-dominant more than anything. Medium fullbodied, but one also finds that there are malt-traces present behind, although it’s bitter more than anything.

Railway city Brewing «Dead Elephant IPA» (6,5) 4/6

imageYellow brownish with nice head. Aroma of banana, sweet berries and orange. Sweet on the palate, extremely smooth and surprisingly little carbonisation going on. Very subtle hoppyness for 6,5 to be, but really tasty. Caramel-like notes underneath. Easygoing and sweet.

Amsterdam Brewing co «Boneshaker» (7,1%) 5/6.

imageHoppy, fruity aroma. Clean and transparent looks. Flash of freshness in the beginning, big degree of matureity, hoppy taste with perfect carbonisation. Balances on the verge of being malty and a citric, bitter hoppyness- with nutty sweet undernotes.

Real ale brewing «Brewers’ cut Black Quadrupel» (10,8%) 5/6

imageVery dark and wine- like, with hints of ripe plums and berries/sweet cherries, which contributes in a fitting sweet way. The colour is ruby. The sweetness comes out even more in the taste, swept in a mature and woody oak/leather-cape. Rich in taste and fullbodied, with quite some «heat» from the ABV.
