Nøgne Ø “1000” (10,00%) 4/6

1000Aroma is pointing in the direction of yeast/pastry and spices from the east. The beer is invitingly dark yellow of colour and produces a nice hat when poured in the glass. Little carbonization, and the spices demanding their space as the mouthful strikes, with a shy hint of bitterness. The yeast is however contributing in a rich way to the taste, without being disturbing- rather in a delicate way. After a while the fruitiness also shows it’s presence, although not in the classsical way that you’d exspect from a pale or blond ale, quite unlike most other bright-colour beers. All the while with the spices remaining there.

Lade gaards «juleøl sterk» (6,5%) 3/6

There’s a very subtle aroma to this one, and a quite undistingushable one. Even though the colour is dark, the beer’s consitency seems quite light in the glass. Tastewise however, it is well mature and contains an interesting crossing of spices- all topped with an acidic hint at the back of the tongue and the palate. Though as expected, it’s a little thin- but it luckily maintains it’s caracter for a while.

Hornbeer «Funky Elf» (9,5%) 3/6

FunkyElfA somewhat strange aroma with metallic influence. Fist chocolate, then acidity, before the liqurice sets in. All with this hint of metal-taste fundament.

St Peters «Christmas Ale» (7%) 2/6

XsPxmasThe dark colour seems inviting. At first, there’s a good presentation of the malts for a starter, with powerful sweetness. Midtways, the beverage converts into a metallic- like disturbance, even though the disharmony is well attempted on camouflaging this.

Hancock «Merry Christmas Happy New Year» (6,3%) 2/6

HancockXmasVery light in colour, with a fresh pilsenerlike round-off. All of a sudden, sweetness (!) kicks in, on the verge to a syntethical impression.

Brewdog «Hoppy Christmas» (7,2%) 3/6

HoppyXmasThere’s small hints from the hops to detect. The beer is light colourwise and light in concistency. Hardly (if any at all)  any references to christmas in this one, but to a certain extent still fruity. Medium freshness and a mild bitterness.

Hornbeer «Juleøl» (9%) 4/6

JuleølHornBA very sweet, liqurice-like smell of malts. Still fresh at the same time as rustiqe hints of christmas is clearly present. Long-lasting and sweet aftertaste.

Det lille bryggeri «Julemandens trøst» (8,1%) 4/6

JulemandenstrøstA great fruity aroma here. Also, the colour is invitingly brown with a velvety layer of foam on it. With regards to taste, it’s very rich and broad, featuring a powerful body with hints of plum, nuts and oak. The taste & aftertaste also lasts for a good while.

Brewdog «Voodoo Doll» (6,8%) 5/6

imageJudging by the nose, we’re in for a pleasant journey herre. It seems to be a fine beer, nice fruityness and a light golden colour. Tastewise, this has a great freshness to it and great fruit (apple?) in addition to the mild, super hops, This is really well balanced beer, absolutely delicious.

Nøgne Ø «Special holiday ale» 2013 (8,5%) 4/6

SeasonalHolidayAleThe smell hits you right away here: Christmas- pastry. Kinda in a rasisin buns/pastry-like way, there is no doubt whatsoever. The beers colour is rather darkand seems to have a light consistency. This goes to show when it comes to taste as well; right down that same alley, with clove, pastry, cinnamon, Juniper and raisin. A great beer with direct referance to Christmas.
